Before 1995 at Tenuta Bossi there were two wines, an entry-level bottling and a more structured Riserva; what was needed was a Riserva that was fresher and easier to drink.

Harvest and climate

The 2021 season was marked by a rainy late autumn, followed by a winter and spring with fairly warm temperatures. The summer was dry and hot. The harvest was therefore slightly early, yet the grapes came in perfectly ripe and healthy. The grapes were picked by hand in late September.

Fermentation and vinification

Fermentation takes place in vats at a temperature of 20° C, controlled by a refrigeration unit. Malolactic fermentation follows in oak casks.

Ageing

It rests for 24 months in 25 hl Slavonian oak casks and then ages in bottle for about 6 months.

Tasting notes

Pian Dei Sorbi 2021 is a full ruby red with faint violet reflections. On the nose it shows great personality, holding a fruity character with fragrances of ripe fruit, strawberry and cherry, then opening into sweet vanilla spice and closing with nuances recalling leather and sweet blond tobacco. The entry on the palate is soft and elegant, with well-judged tannins and a supporting freshness; the finish is savoury, retaining a delicious note of red fruit, cherry above all, and a clear aromatic echo of sweet blond tobacco.

Serving temperature and glass

The recommended serving temperature is between 16 - 18 C°. The glass to use for this wine is the Rhine glass.

Pairing

Roast and grilled meats, both beef and veal.

Production area

The Villa Bossi estate, at an altitude of around 300 metres above sea level, in the Sottomonte and Camerata vineyards, south-facing and set on the hillside, with 9.2 hectares of Sangiovese and 3.1 hectares of Colorino.
