Before 1995 Tenuta Bossi made a base wine and a more structured riserva; what was wanted was a riserva that was fresher and easier to drink.

Harvest and climate

The 2015 vintage was marked by abundant winter rainfall and a mild spring. Summer proved changeable, at times with heavy downpours and a few hailstorms. Even so, the quality of the fruit brought into the cellar was outstanding, enough to promise a vintage of real substance. The grapes were picked by hand in early October.

Fermentation and vinification

Fermentation takes place in vats at 20° C, controlled by a refrigeration unit. Malolactic fermentation follows in oak casks.

Ageing

It rests for 24 months in 25 hl Slavonian oak casks and then refines in bottle for around 6 months.

Tasting notes

Pian dei Sorbi 2015 is a full ruby red with faint violet reverberations. The nose shows great personality, holding a fruited character with fragrances of ripe fruit, raspberry and cherry, which then opens into sweet spice of vanilla and cinnamon, closing on nuances recalling leather and sweet blond tobacco. The entry is supple and elegant, with well-judged tannin and a supporting freshness; the finish stands out for its savouriness, keeping a moreish red-fruit note, cherry above all, and a clear aromatic accord with sweet blond tobacco.

Serving temperature and glass

The recommended serving temperature is between 16 and 18 C°. The glass to use for this wine is the Rhine glass.

Pairing

Roast and grilled meats, both beef and veal.

Production area

The Villa Bossi estate, at an altitude of around 300 metres above sea level, in the Sottomonte and Camerata vineyards, southern exposure and set on the hillside, with 9.2 hectares of Sangiovese and 3.1 hectares of Colorino.
