Fiammae 2020

Fiammae 2020

Rosso Colli Toscana Centrale IGT

Born of the vision of Gerardo and Lapo Gondi who, believing in this land and in its most representative grape, Sangiovese, felt the need for a wine among those of Tenuta Bossi that would be traditional and innovative at once. A wine bearing the traits of their own souls: power and persistence, balance and freshness.

The vintages

Harvest and climate

2020 was one of the warmest vintages of recent years. High temperatures, above all through the summer, hastened the ripening of the grapes. August rainfall helped restore a balance between vegetative growth and crop. Picked by hand on 10 September, the grapes reached the cellar in perfect ripeness. Half were left to dry for a month in the loft, while the rest went straight to the press.

Fermentation and vinification

Fermentation takes place in a 500-litre steel vat, with the temperature controlled by a refrigeration unit.

Ageing

It rests for 18 months in French barriques: the half pressed immediately in a medium-toast barrique, the dried fruit in a barrique of more austere, powerful character. The wine then refines for a further 12 months in bottle.

Tasting notes

Fiammae 2017 is bright ruby red in colour. The nose is highly intense and greatly complex, opening on red fruits both fresh and dried - cherry, strawberry, raspberry - before unfolding into spicy, toasty notes. The spice is sweet, closing on nuances of bitter chocolate and sweet tobacco. On the palate it is powerful and rich, the tannins tight and silky. The mouth echoes the fruit notes of strawberry and cherry alongside the toasty, spicy ones. A wine of great personality.

Serving temperature and glass

The recommended serving temperature is between 16 and 18 C°. The bottle should be opened about an hour beforehand; for older vintages a decanter is advised. The glass to use for this wine is a balloon or a Bordeaux

Pairing

Substantial red meats such as fillet, or small game.

Production area

The Villa Bossi estate, at an altitude of around 300 metres above sea level, in the Fiammae vineyard: 2 hectares of Sangiovese with a southern exposure, set on the hillside.
