Italian Brass Week and Palazzo Gondi

The international festival 'Italian Brass Week', which reached its twenty-second edition this year, was held in Florence from 1 to 8 August 2021. It is directed by M° Luca Benucci, principal horn of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and a teacher at the Fondazione Scuola di Musica di Fiesole onlus and at the 'Claudio Monteverdi' Conservatory of Music in Bolzano.

On 5 August Palazzo Gondi hosted the festival’s Main Event, the world premiere of “Nata da foglie e brina. Muschio. Vento del bosco”, from Canto I of the Inferno, composed by M° Arnaldo De Felice to texts by Francesca Andreini. "Nata da foglie e brina. Muschio. Vento del bosco" for soprano and brass ensemble is a homage to Dante Alighieri and to the Incipit of the Divina Commedia. Taking its inspiration from a prose piece by Francesca Andreini on the figure of the Lonza, the composition revisits the tension between the human being (Dante) and the animal, symbol of nature and instinct, the primal force from which man tries in vain to escape. The music carries much of the text, while the soprano’s voice traces its most expressive and dramatically salient features.
