300 years of the Bando dei Vini

On 24 and 25 September we will celebrate 300 years of the "Bando dei Vini", issued by Cosimo III de' Medici, which established the first territorial denominations of wine and the first quality controls and guarantees for the consumer. A DOC certification ante litteram.

Over these days, four denominations will be celebrated: Chianti Rùfina, Chianti Classico, Carmignano and Valdarno di Sopra. An important anniversary in which the four Consorzi, heirs to Cosimo III in the work of protecting and enhancing their territories, will celebrate the Tercentenary in a festive programme bringing together history, present day, conviviality and cultural debate.

On 24 September, in the Salone del '500 of Palazzo Vecchio, there will be an in-depth historical discussion of wine and the vine in Tuscany curated by the Accademia dei Georgofili, followed by a talk show. Then, at the Teatro dell'Opera di Firenze, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino will dedicate a special concert to the anniversary, before a toast together over dinner in the foyer of the prestigious Italian theatre.

On 25 September, the Opera Medicea Laurenziana will lead a visit to the Basilica, followed by a Wine Experience with guided tastings of the wines of the four Denominations.

Marchesi Gondi - Tenuta Bossi will take part in this splendid initiative by presenting the Chianti Rufina DOCG Riserva "Villa Bossi 2010". You will recognise this wine by its APPEARANCE: intense ruby red, with good depth of colour and light purple reflections; on the NOSE: ripe, macerated blackberry, followed by sweet, well-integrated liquorice and vanilla spice with balsamic and toasted nuances. The finish shows notes of cocoa; and finally on the PALATE: great structure and character. The wine's fullness is expressed in the roundness and personality of the tannins; the finish is long, with fruity and mineral notes closing on a pleasant hint of liquorice.
